TRAINING
Mounted Security has a unique combination of horses.These horses represent different breeds, some of which are: Percheron, Quarter Horse, Drum Horse, Clydesdale, Shire, Paint, Stock Horse and crosses of these breeds
There are a few requirements that a horse must have before we will consider them into our Mounted Unit.
• Gelding or mare are accepted
• Minimum height of 15.2 hands
• Between the ages of 3 to 15 years
• Must be of gentle temperament
• Must pass a vet check
After acceptance, the horse will go through an evaluation period and training phase. During the initial training/evaluation, each horse will be assessed at the Mounted Facility and put through such obstacles as tarps, fireworks, smoke, bridges, water, and stairs.
The horses will be further assessed while working in groups with other mounted horses. Harassment and crowd control situations will be introduced at this point.
Next, the horses are then taken to shopping precincts, parks where there is construction projects, vehicle and pedestrian traffic and other obstacles.
We initiate a barefoot program for our horses. Over a period of time the horse foot strengthens, until then we utilize the Easycare NewMac Boots
